O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to thee.
These are the words inscribed on the Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception.
On November 27, 1830, Our Lady appeared to Sister Catherine Laboure, of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul, in Paris, France. During that apparition, Our Lady instructed her to “Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it around the neck.” (Click here for more information on the Miraculous Medal)
In the summer of 2005 a decision was made to commission the making of a statue and erect a shrine on the Retreat House grounds, depicting the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Sister (St.) Catherine Laboure. That statue arrived November 7, 2006.
At 6:00 PM, July 18, 2007, the anniversary of Mary’s first apparition to St. Catherine Labouré, Bishop Walter Hurley dedicated the shrine. This Shrine is the answer to an inspiration from God and many prayers to God.
